13 farmers abducted in Central Darfur

Cattle herders took 13 displaced farmers captive in Azum locality on Sunday. A resident of Tayeba camp for the displaced near Zalingei, capital of Central Darfur, was shot dead.
The herders started entering their cattle by force on farmlands in the area of Mara, near Wadi Azum, on Friday, a farmer from Ronga Tas camp told Radio Dabanga.

Cattle herders took 13 displaced farmers captive in Azum locality on Sunday. A resident of Tayeba camp for the displaced near Zalingei, capital of Central Darfur, was shot dead.

The herders started entering their cattle by force on farmlands in the area of Mara, near Wadi Azum, on Friday, a farmer from Ronga Tas camp told Radio Dabanga.

“More than 60 cows died, however, after they had eaten plants affected by a disease,” he said. “The herders retaliated by abducting 13 farmers from the Ronga Tas and Hamidiya camps.

He added that the cattle damaged hundreds of the acres planted with vegetables.

Ambush

On Sunday, two militiamen ambushed Sheikheldin Abu El Kheirat near Tayeba camp.

“They shot him dead at the spot, after which they took his money and motorcycle, and fled”, a camp elder reported to Radio Dabanga.
