The members of the “Sudan Troika”, the USA, UK, and Norway, have welcomed the convening of the preparatory meeting on the National Dialogue, scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa on Sunday and Monday.

The Troika countries consider a comprehensive and inclusive National Dialogue “the best opportunity to achieve a representative political system, and to confront fundamental issues of governance, political inclusiveness, resource sharing, identity, and social equality.

“A genuine dialogue also remains the political process through which to negotiate -and ensure- a credible and broadly participatory national election,” the American, British, and Norwegian governments state in a media note today.

According to the Troika, “the ‘pre-dialogue’ offers a forum through which Sudanese representatives from government, political parties, opposition groups, and civil society can together determine the structure, objectives, and timeline for a National Dialogue”.

The three countries “encourage the political leadership to ensure the time to create an environment necessary to deliver on their promise of a genuine, holistic, and truly inclusive dialogue.

“We will continue to follow the process closely, and stand ready to work with those who seek to advance meaningful reforms that can bring about peace and stability for all the people of Sudan,” the media note reads.
