Security forces detained four students of the University of Bakht El Rida in Ed Duweim, White Nile state, on Wednesday.

The students were detained against the backdrop of clashes between students on Monday. After student members of the National Congress Party (NCP) had won the students union elections, fighting erupted when other students accused them of rigging the polls. The building of the students’ deanship, the students’ union, and the office of the university guards were set on fire. 11 students were detained.

One of the students told Radio Dabanga on Friday that security agents held four students late on Wednesday evening. “They have not been released so far.”

He said that the Dean of Student Affairs at the University personally paid the bail for the 11 students who were held on Monday.
