Sudan security breaks up meeting, arrests head political party in Khartoum

Security forces stormed the headquarters of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) in Khartoum North on Saturday evening, breaking up a public meeting held by the National Consensus Forces (NCF). The president of the SCP was arrested. “The NCF had organised the public meeting to discuss the current political situation. It would be held at Shambat square in Khartoum Bahri. Security troops, however, cordoned off the square with about 50 vehicles. They placed iron barricades and barriers of cement, and cut off the electricity from the square,” one of the attendants told Radio Dabanga. “The people then moved to the headquarters of the SCP, to hold the meeting there, but the security forces and the police stormed the premises, using tear gas and batons to disperse the attendants.
