The Governor of the Red Sea state has relieved the Finance Minister, Osman Mohamed Taha, and rejected the state Legislative Council’s Vote of No Confidence in the Minister of Social Affairs, Mohammed Babiker Braimer.

In rejecting the vote, Governor Ali Ahmed Hamid, described the action as contrary to the Constitution and the regulations of the Council, and called it “false and built on falsehood”. He said he would “escalate the issue to the party leadership so as to abolish the decision”.

On Monday, the Legislative Council of the Red Sea state carried a Vote of No Confidence in the Minister of Social Affairs, Mohammed Babiker Braimer, during an emergency meeting. The Vote was carried by 43 votes against 40, with three abstentions.

The council summoned the Minister to hear his explanations about the nature of social support for the less-developed localities projects, such as Durdaib, Ageeg and Tokar. They also inquired about the implementation of the plan to spend SDG50 million ($8.2 million) in support from the Federal Ministry of Welfare and Social Security.

Journalist Osman Hashim told Radio Dabanga that “the state Legislative Council rejected the minister’s disregard for them in the formation of special committees and his support and focus on agriculture, horticulture and goats, that are not a priority in localities lacking all the necessities of life”.
