Sudan government forces ‘beaten and dispersed’ in Kordofan clashes: JEM

The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) integrated with the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), has claimed to have “beaten and dispersed” government forces and their militias in several places in North and South Kordofan on Friday and Saturday. JEM deputy head, Mohamed Al Beel Issa Zayyed, told Radio Dabanga that the clashes occurred at places including Umm Garnashak, in the western part of North Kordofan, and the area of Al Bouta in South Kordofan. “A number of soldiers were captured and the SRF seized more than 40 Land Cruiser vehicles and destroyed several others.” Zayyed said that Friday’s battle occurred when “JEM troops, en route to Khartoum, encountered government forces in Umm Garnashak in North Kordofan”. He claims that the movement’s troops were “able to defeat the government forces while the remaining soldiers fled towards Jeriban”. “On Saturday, government forces assisted by militias and the Chadian Army intercepted JEM troops in the region of Al Bouta between Foula and Babanusa,” Zayyed said. “The JEM troops managed to defeat the forces and dispersed them towards Babanusa, Foula and Heglig.” Zayyed stressed that the SRF’s objective is Khartoum and not Al Mujlad or Babanusa.File photo
