Sudan crisis: Passenger transport tariffs to increase by 60%
The Sudanese Transport Chambers Union started to apply a 60 percent increase in the passenger transport tariffs on Sunday.
In a statement, the union said the transport chambers approved the recommendations of the Permanent Committee to revise the passenger transportation tariffs.
The committee recommended an increase of 76 per cent, but the chambers agreed that an increase of 60 per cent would be acceptable.
The increase will be implemented in two phases, the first, by 30 per cent started on Sunday, the second increase will come into force two or three days after the ending of Ramadan, on Monday June 18.
Many Sudanese are used to travel by bus to their family in other places in the country for the Eid El Fitr which may begin coming Friday or Saturday.
