Student teacher arrested in Central Darfur

The security forces detained a student of the University of Zalingei in Central Darfur on Tuesday. One of the Zalingei University students told Radio Dabanga that the security forces raided the University on Tuesday morning and took Abdelhamid Abdallah Mohamed, a student at the Faculty of Education, with them to an unknown destination. At the time of the raid Mohamed was speaking at a discussion organised by the students’ United People’s Front. The debate was dealing with current issues relating to the economic situation, the security situation and the students’ living conditions. The source expressed the students’ fear that Mohamed may be tortured or badly treated by the security forces, appealing to humanitarian and human rights organisations to intervene so that Mohamed immediately be released or brought to justice.
