An employee of the Irish GOAL organisation was abducted in Kutum, North Darfur, on Wednesday.

Sheikh Taher Ismail told Radio Dabanga from Kutum that a group of militiamen in a Land Cruisers and others on a motorcycle, kidnapped Ibrahim Adam Abdelshakour at about 5 pm.

“Abdelshakour was on his way from the GOAL office to his home in El Salam district, when they stopped him by force,” he said. “They took him to an unknown destination.”

The residents of Kutum attribute the rampant lawlessness in the area to the absence of the police and the judiciary since more than three years. They have repeatedly urged the authorities to restore the rule of law.
