Students and pupils in the Marta district in Kadugli, capital of South Kordofan, may have lost their school buildings, as it has been transformed into a military base.

One of the parents told Radio Dabanga that army forces took advantage of the summer vacation, and occupied the school complex in the district. “They converted the classrooms into military barracks, and parked their vehicles in the school yard.”

He complained that despite the start of the new school year earlier this week, the army troops did not leave so far.

“We have informed the South Kordofan state authorities that we fear that the complex might be turned into a permanent military base, following the removal of parts of the outer school walls, to enter their tanks and other military vehicles,” he said.
