South Darfur state emergency measures to be continued in 2015

The emergency measures, imposed by the government of South Darfur in July last year, in an attempt to reduce the rampant insecurity in the state, will be continued in 2015.
Abdelrahman Hussein Gardud, Deputy Governor of South Darfur state, announced the continuation of the special measures in a press conference in Nyala on Wednesday, following the presentation of the half-year-review to the state authorities.

The emergency measures, imposed by the government of South Darfur in July last year, in an attempt to reduce the rampant insecurity in the state, will be continued in 2015.

Abdelrahman Hussein Gardud, Deputy Governor of South Darfur state, announced the continuation of the special measures in a press conference in Nyala on Wednesday, following the presentation of the half-year-review to the state authorities.

He said that 526 men, accused of violating the emergency measures last year, will soon face trial at the Emergency Court, established in August for this purpose. 

“During the second half of 2014, the Emergency Court sentenced 107 people to prison. 27 others were sentenced to lashing, 199 fined, and one accused was acquitted.”

Gardud furthermore pointed out that in the past five months 57 different weapons were confiscated, as well as 12 four-wheel-drive vehicles, 10 motorcycles, and a rickshaw.
