The government of South Darfur signed on a framework agreement with the United Sudanese Movements (USM), which comprises five opposition factions, in Nyala on Tuesday.

The five factions are primarily groups representing Darfur tribes with Arab origin, namely the Revolutionary Force, Revolutionary Rights, Alansaf, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (Return from the South Faction) and Voice of the Truth Movement.

Dr. Abdul Hamid Musa Kasha, governor of South Darfur, said in his speech during the signing ceremony in Nyala that his government will commit to implement the agreement.

On the other hand, the United Revolutionary Forces (URF) described the agreement as a sham. It said the group was fabricated by the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) and that they do not exist in reality.
Musa Hassan Musa, the official spokesperson of the URF told Radio Dabanga, that those who signed the agreement in Nyala do not represent any faction or rebel side but are proxies for the NCP, which recruited them.

He also stated that the people that were brought to sign the agreement in Nyala were brought from their homes and not from the battlefield. He described the event as an attempt by the government to mislead the public.
