South Darfur man slain for his mobile phone

On Monday a displaced man was murdered by two militiamen in the town of Kass in South Darfur. The coordinator of the Kass camps for the displaced told Radio Dabanga that two militiamen wearing military uniforms wanted to rob El Tayeb Abdallah Mohamed (28), known by the name of Garang, of his mobile phone. When he refused to hand it to them, they shot him dead. A joint “rescue team” composed of camp residents and authorities managed to arrest the alleged murderers at Kur Gara village, east of Singita area, to the south of Kass. The coordinator demanded from the local and state authorities in Darfur to protect the displaced from the assaults and abuses of the “Janjaweed”.
