South Darfur displaced complain of marauding militiamen; man beaten and robbed

The residents of El Salam camp for the displaced are complaining about armed militiamen roaming the camp, especially on market days, and assaulting the people in the streets.“We filed a complaint about them to the army, the police and Unamid. They all said that they cannot do anything, as those militias are authorised to carry weapons,” Sheikh Mahjoub Tabaldiya of the El Salam camp told Radio Dabanga. The sheikh also reported that on Sunday “a number of these government-backed militiamen” stormed the house of camp resident Adam Abdelrahman. They beat him severely before they robbed him of SDG120 ($21), his mobile phone and some of his belongings.   File photo
