SLM (AG) claim destruction of army camp

The Sudan Liberation Movement, Ahrar-faction (AG) split of SLM (AW) claim to have destroyed the main part of Jabal Moon, the government’s army camp in West Darfur, during a four hour raid, on Saturday night. The SLM (AG) has abandoned the Geneina agreement with the government.

Tayeb Solomon, SLM (AG) Spokesman, told Radio Dabanga, that government troops were able to flee the burning camp, while the attack was still in full blast. Radio Dabanga was unable to get any comments from the army, or any other independent sources. Tayeb explained that the operation was a response to a government bombardment of farms and villages in the area.

SLM : unified front against government

Head of SLM (AW), Abbas, reported to Radio Dabanga, that there were several reasons, why they abandoned the Geneina agreement, as signed in August 2010, with the government of the state of West Darfur. He explained, that, first and foremost, the government has lacked any commitment to the agreement, but, also, that the conditions, which he put his signature under, have changed. He added, that this had led to much demise in the SLM, including an internal split.

Abbas remarked that since seven months, after the split, the coordination of Darfuri resistance forces in the field has become very hard. This has, also, been due to the recent Doha agreement, which has effectively annulled the last pieces of the previous agreement. Abbas, therefore, does not believe that Doha will bring peace. He told Radio Dabanga, that the only way out for Darfur regions, would be to unify their resistance forces and overthrow the regime.
