Shooting between soldiers, militiamen in Central Darfur

Two government troops and two gunmen were injured in a clash in Um Dukhun locality, Central Darfur, on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred when armed men, said to be pro-government militiamen, ambushed one of the soldiers when he was riding a motorcycle on the way from the market in Um Dukhun to Ushara district, where the headquarters of the army garrison are located.

Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that the militiamen ordered the soldier, named Nejmeldin, to stop. He refused to do so and they opened fire on him, and then seized his weapon. Nejmeldin sustained a bullet wound. Another passing soldier, however, returned fire and managed to wound two of the militiamen. He also sustained a bullet wound.

The wounded militiamen were taken to the hospital in Um Dukhun for treatment, and the two injured soldiers to the Joint Command Headquarters in Um Dukhun.
