Sheikh arrested in North Darfur

Sheikh Abdel Razek Suleiman of Dankoj camp was arrested in Seraf Umra locality three weeks ago in North Darfur.
Sources told Radio Dabanga that on his arrest Sheikh Suleiman was taken to a security compound in Kababiya, and on Sunday 13th December moved to a compound in El Fasher. The source said that he has not had any charges brought against him or the opportunity to meet with any lawyers.
Human rights activists and civil society organizations have said that this is against the constitution of Sudan, and international conventions on human rights which have been ratified by Sudan.
Local organizations and lawyers have appealed to the United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) to assert their influence to secure his release, or try him in court if charges are found. Activists also call for Sheikh Suleiman to seek medical assistance, as there are reports he has abstained from eating in captivity, the source told Radio Dabanga.
