A report has caused outrage in North Darfur, after allegations that in November, 20 pupils at a Koran school were raped by the sheikh, who presided over the school, northwest of El Fasher.

The Secretary-General of the North Darfur State Council for Child Welfare, Dr Hikma El Hafiz, confirmed in a press statement yesterday, that the accused was arrested, and has been held in Shala Prison in El Fasher since November last year, when the allegations of abuse came to light.

The Association of Media Reporters for Children in North Darfur have strongly condemned the alleged rape and consider it “a crime against humanity”. The association called on the relevant authorities and state government to impose the most severe punishment on those violating the rights of innocent children.
