Another group of gunmen attacked displaced collecting firewood in the area of Ghireiga, 7 km south of the camp. They severely beat them with their whips. “Abkora Eisa Adam and El Zein Adam Ali sustained serious injuries.”

‘Siege-like situation’

The sheikh said that since more than a week the security situation at El Salam camp is getting worse again. “We have a siege-like situation, especially at the southern part of the camp, where large numbers of militiamen are haunting the area. They assault, beat, and threaten to kill anyone who leaves the camp to collect firewood or straw.”

He added that the authorities and Unamid have received reports of all the incidents that occurred inside and outside the camp, “but no actions have been taken”, and called via Radio Dabanga for “protection, eviction of these Janjaweed, and a prohibition for anyone to enter the camp with weapons”.
