Security detains two sheikhs of Tur in Central Darfur

On Sunday, two community leaders were detained by security agents in Tur in Central Darfur. About 800 families that fled western Jebel Marra arrived at the town.
“A group of security officers from Kass locality stormed the homes of Sheikh Abelmahmoud Ishag and Sheikh Dawelbeit Mohamed and detained them without giving a reason,” a listener informed Radio Dabanga.

“A group of security officers from Kass locality stormed the homes of Sheikh Abelmahmoud Ishag and Sheikh Dawelbeit Mohamed and detained them without giving a reason,” a listener informed Radio Dabanga.

He added that more than 800 families, “from 16 villages”, who fled the fighting in Jebel Marra reached Tur “so far”.

“The Sheikhs in Tur have made an inventory of the people,” he said, and appealed to the UN and the AU “to intervene, and help these families who are suffering from an extremely bad humanitarian situation because of the harsh winter”.

The source also reported that a number of students, who fled the Koran school of Korma El Tina in western Jebel Marra, went missing on the way to the area of Rouka, Konja, and Dabo. “Their relatives fear that they have been captured by militiamen.”
