Security authorities arrest 22 Darfuri in Khartoum

Security authorities in Khartoum on Wednesday arrested 22 Darfuris who had arrived from Libya. The arrests followed large protests at Zanga market, east of Libya market for the second day in a row. Witnesses of the protests said that the police used batons, sticks and tear gas to separate the protesters, and many were severely beaten in the process.

According to one of the protesters, 15 of the 22 arrestees have been released. Charges were filed against the remaining seven. Radio Dabanga was told that the arrestees faced severe beatings while in prison. The reason for the protests was described to be the demand by the returnees to return to their homes and to receive back belongings.
