Schools closed for 3 days after murder, Sudan army sends back-up

Secondary and basic schools at the Fata Barno camp for displaced in Kutum locality, North Darfur, have been closed for three days following the murder of a teacher and the injury of a principal on Monday.
Camp’s residents told Radio Dabanga on Wednesday, 23 January, that all students of North Darfur must take their certificate examinations at this time of the year. The exams kicked off on Monday, however, due to lack of security Fata Barno students are not taking it, sources pointed out.
The crimes reported above happened when gunmen allegedly belonging to the Arab Bedouin movement attacked the camp’s army garrison and market earlier this week. As a result, the Sudanese army sent reinforcement to the area on Tuesday, according to testimonies.
Besides the teacher and the principal, an army officer who was guarding the base was shot dead on the spot as the perpetrators approached the garrison.
