S Darfur Governor: sugar factory to be established

South Darfur’s Governor, Hamad Ismail Hamad, announced the establishment of ‘Wadi Kaya’ sugar factory in Ed Al-Fursan locality, South Darfur, after a sovereign decision on the matter has been issued. Hamad explained in a press statement, issued on Thursday September 6, that a feasibility study showed a possible production of 450 tons per day. The Governor indicated the factory will be established after the completion of a settlement regarding landowners’ benefits. He emphasized the state government decided to establish factories to overcome the import struggles of commodities such as sugar and cement. Hamad also pointed out that many development projects will be introduced in the coming year; such as cement and sugar factories, road construction and lighting.
