SJN condemns yet another attempt to intimidate the press as Al-Ahdath faces disruption in circulation for second straight day

The Sudanese Journalists Network (SJN) strongly condemned the confiscation of a local daily Al-Ahdath by the country’s security forces on Monday.

The protests came after the publisher saw a second straight day of losses when printed copies were confiscated by security forces without citing any reasons for doing so.

The network has also condemned the repeated confiscation of newspapers by Sudanese security forces, a method it uses to limit freedom of expression guaranteed by the country’s constitution.

It said in a statement: “The confiscation of the newspaper Al-Ahdath was in violation of the interim constitution and international instruments ratified by Sudan.”

The SJN strongly denounced violations of freedom of expression by the security forces through means such as these as well as arrest of journalists.
