Protest in Paris against deportation of Sudanese asylum seekers

Dozens of Sudanese and French activists staged a protest in Paris on Friday against the forced deportation of Sudanese asylum seekers.
The protesters demanded an immediate stop of the deportations, Mohamed Khaled, one of the organisers, told Radio Dabanga.
He said that a group of Sudanese organisations in France together with some French organisations called for the vigil in front of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
They handed a memorandum to the Ministry, demanding the suspension of the deportations of Sudanese asylum seekers. They stated that Sudan is “an unsafe country where the deportees will be most probably subjected to investigation procedures that violate the European Convention on Human Rights”, and called on the French authorities to provide protection to the asylum seekers.

“There is a high risk that the Sudanese authorities will subject the deportees to investigations that will turn their lives into hell”, Khaled added.

About two weeks ago, the French authorities decided to deport 27 Sudanese, most of them from Darfur and the Nuba Mountains, whose application for political asylum was turned down.
