Policeman killed in gunmen attack

Perpetrators and motives unknown to local populationA policeman was killed in the city of Nertiti on Monday after an attack on the old market’s guard post, in the neighborhood of Omda. Citizens told Radio Dabanga that a group of 5 armed men attacked the post while it was supervising the market. Sixteen (16) officers were on duty at the time. While both groups fired at each other, an officer was hurt on the right side of his abdomen and on his leg; he died of his injuries while the attacking force escaped to an unknown location. According to the citizens, the mayor declared a curfew from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. immediately after the policeman’s burial on Monday evening, and added that security forces would fire at anyone violating this measure without previous notice.
