Police torture detained journalist in Sudan’s West Kordofan

The detained journalist of El Jareeda newspaper was tortured by police forces in En Nahud in West Kordofan on Tuesday. According to news from En Nahud town, Hassan Ishag was captured at about 1pm at the local market, and taken to the police department. There, he was interrogated, tortured, and verbally insulted inside the interrogation room. He sustained various injuries.Ishag remained in the department until about 7.30pm, under the mercy of his tormentors. He was jailed at about 8 pm despite the injuries caused by the torture. Authorities seized the print run of El Jareeda on Sunday, and gagged the paper’s columnist Zuheir El Saraj for an indefinite term. Four members of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) were also arrested on Tuesday afternoon. The detained journalist of El Jareeda newspaper was tortured by police forces in En Nahud in West Kordofan on Tuesday.

According to news from En Nahud town, Hassan Ishag was captured at about 1pm at the local market, and taken to the police department. There, he was interrogated, tortured, and verbally insulted inside the interrogation room. He sustained various injuries.

Ishag remained in the department until about 7.30pm, under the mercy of his tormentors. He was jailed at about 8 pm despite the injuries caused by the torture.

Authorities seized the print run of El Jareeda on Sunday, and gagged the paper’s columnist Zuheir El Saraj for an indefinite term.

Four members of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) were also arrested on Tuesday afternoon. Hundreds of people demonstrated in En Nahud in West Kordofan on Thursday in protest against the detntion of the head of the SCP, Ibrahim El Sheikh.
