Soldiers arrest merchants in Darfur’s East Jebel Marra

Military forces arrested two merchants in Deribat in Darfur’s East Jebel Marra on Thursday, and took them to an army garrison in the area. A relative of the arrested Hamdan Musa Adam (30 years old) and Eisa Yagoub (28 years old) told Radio Dabanga that army elements stopped both of the men in the morning, when they were riding two camels carrying lemons. They were on their way from Deribat to sell the lemons at Fanga market. The soldiers took them to Deribat’s army garrison, where they confiscated the lemons and slaughtered both camels. The witness is concerned that they might be subjected to torture or bad treatment, and appealed to human rights organisations to intervene for their release.
