Police in plain clothes shoot man from camp near Geneina, Darfur

Armed men opened fire on a displaced person, Mohammed Adam, in front of his house in Abu Zar camp near the city of El Geneina. An eyewitness said that he and other witnesses recognized the shooters and that one of them was a policeman in civilian clothing.

An eyewitness said that he and other witnesses recognized the shooters and that one of them was a policeman in civilian clothing.The witness recounted that the shooters knocked on the door of the victim and then shot him twice in his right leg after which he was taken to the hospital. The witness also added that they have reported the incident to the police but the police did not take any action and he considered what happened in the camp, along with similar incidents, to be a plot by the government to break down the camp by destabile the security and humanitarian situations.

In another development, the World Food Program (WFP) has greatly decreased the rations of food distributed to the displaced people of Abu Zar Camp, the displaced people said. The IDPs had announced their refusal to receive relief via the Chamber of Commerce. A sheikh from the camp said that the last ration was only in the form of bread and wheat, excluding formerly distributed items such as oil, sugar, soap and a mixture of foods. He also stated that they knew of the intention of the WFP to hand the responsibility of distribution to a certain company by next month.
