Police forces clash with militiamen in South Darfur

Violent clashes between the police and militiamen in Malaja in South Darfur on Monday caused residents of the neighbourhood to flee. Troops on both sides were injured. The head of the South Darfur state police, Maj. Gen. Ahmed Osman Mohamed Kheir said in press statements that a police force clashed with an armed group who tried to rob citizens near Malaja. Joint security and police forces were able to arrest three of the militiamen, of whom two were injured. A lieutenant and another policeman were also wounded. Multiple sources reported to Radio Dabanga that most of the residents living around the Malaja market in Nyala North locality in South Darfur fled from their homes during the clashes in which machine guns were used.
