Police chief killed in attack on Gereida police station, S. Darfur

Pro-government militias attacked on Saturday the police station in Gereida locality, South Darfur, killing two police officers and injuring another. Besides, a police car mounted with a Dushka machine gun was looted as well as all the arms and ammunition stored in the police station.Sources informed Radio Dabanga that armed militants in two Land Cruiser vehicles and on horses attacked the police station around sunset from four different sides. The sources revealed that the attack resulted in the death of the chief of police, Mohy el-Deen, as well as sergeant Zakaria Ahmed Zakaria and the injuring of another officer. It was added that a police car mounted with a Dushka machine gun was looted as well as all the weapons and ammunition stored at the station. Amina Nour el-Deen el-Malik, member of the legislative council of the state, Gereida department, said in a press statement that a report was received from the locality’s commissioner claiming that an unidentified armed group attacked the police station at sunset, killing the chief of police on the spot.In addition, two officers were injured and taken to the hospital in Gereida for treatment. It was added that one of the wounded victims died in the hospital and that the militants seized a police car in which they fled the scene. According to the report, an armed group stole a vehicle belonging to citizen Abdullah Shawgar on Saturday evening in the district of Karkara in Nyala, South Darfur, and escaped.File photo
