Opposition party office in Sudan’s capital raided

Masked gunmen raided the office of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) in Omdurman, the sister-city of Khartoum, on Sunday morning, molested the seven party members present, and destroyed the office. “A group of 12 masked gunmen in civilian clothes raided the SCP office in the Abbasiya district, at about 3 am on Sunday. The gunmen tied and beat us,” Abdel Salam Mohamedein, one of the victims told Radio Dabanga. “After they had robbed us of our mobile phones and other personal belongings at gunpoint, the gunmen destroyed all the computers, files, documents, and furniture belonging to the party.” SCP leaders released On Saturday, security authorities released three SCP branch leaders of Sudri in North Kordofan, among them branch head Mohamed Nur Teirab, and Secretary-General Abdel Gader Hakamdar, after a detention of 87 days. The security threatened them that they would be immediately detained again if they would continue to “incite citizens”. There are still 21 SCP members detained in Sudan, among them SCP chairman Ibrahim El Sheikh in En Nahud, West Kordofan. On Sunday, the security authorities renewed the detention of three SCP leaders, held in En Nahud and El Fula, West Kordofan, for a period of six months. El Sheikh has been charged with undermining the Sudanese Constitution after he had publicly denounced the widespread attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces on civilians in Darfur and Kordofan. The SCP refuses to apologise for their chairman’s criticism of the militia, saying that they stand behind their leader. “We will not withdraw our standpoint on the atrocities committed by the RSF, as the authorities requested from El Sheikh in exchange for his and the other party members’ release. The SCP keeps to its conviction that the RSF are unconstitutional. The militia must be held accountable for the crimes they committed in Darfur and Kordofan,” SCP’s Political Secretary told Radio Dabanga on Wednesday.
