Oil field fire destroys orchards in East Darfur

On Saturday, a fire broke out at the Shag El Kheil oil field in the northern part of Adila locality. “The fire that lasted two days, caused excessive agricultural losses in the area,” El Fateh Abu Shariha reported to Radio Dabanga from Adila town. The affected farmers gathered on Sunday in front of the main office of the Dambar oil exploration company operating in Shag El Kheil, demanding compensation for the loss of 17 orchards with gum-bearing acacia trees, and vast tracts of farmland.“The company, however, denied that the fire was caused by oil exploration,” Abu Shariha said.
