NUP chairman demands clarity on Doha terms

Says they didn’t sign agreement because documents lacks clear definitionImam Sadiq al-Mahdi, chairman of the National Umma Party (NUP), said the party’s refusal to participate in the Doha agreement was due to a lack of knowledge of the document’s terms. Mahdi told in a news conference he had selected 15 positive and 19 negative aspects of the document. Mahdi believes the agreement still entails several aspects that led to the failure of previous peace attempts, and that they would hinder this one as well. He, however, did not disclose to which aspects he was exactly referring to. “To suggest that this document could ultimately resolve the Darfur crisis, security needs to be achieved. But this can’t be done without the involvement of all the concerned parties,” he said. He furthermore added that an alliance should be considered between Darfur movements and the SPLM in order to provide a united answer to the Doha agreement.Lastly, he called for the establishment of a workshop for all the involved parties to discuss the document and create a national solution for the situation in Darfur and Sudan.
