North Darfur Student kidnapped by militia
A secondary school student has been kidnapped for ransom from the North Darfur gold mining area of Abdul Shakoor.
Adel Zakaria Eisa Nahar was seized by militiamen from the Abdul Shakoor area of Kutum locality at gunpoint. They have taken him to an unknown destination.
As reported previously by Radio Dabanga, there has been a noticable increase over recent months in incidents of kidnapping by militiamen as a means to extort ramsom money from their families or communities.
A relative of the victim told Radio Dabanga the kidnappers contacted his relatives and demanded a ransom of SDG80,000 ($13,000) for his release.
He called upon the North Darfur authorities and human rights organisations to intervene for the student’s release.
