No free drinking water for displaced in Kass, South Darfur

The population of Kass camp for the displaced in South Darfur have difficulty obtaining drinking water for financial reasons. One of the camp sheikhs in Kass reported Radio Dabanga that the two organisations working in the field of water in the camp, Tear Fund and World Vision, notified the camp sheikhs and omdas last week that the provision of fuel had to be stopped for financial reasons. They suggested collecting among the camp residents the amount required for the purchase of fuel and the wages of the labourers operating the water stations. The sheikh said that the displaced do not have the means to pay for the water stations. A pair of water tins (8 litres) from a commercial dealer has risen to SDG2 ($0.35).Many camp residents now fetch their drinking water from the valleys in the vicinity.
