Murnei displaced reject re-planning of West Darfur camp

The population of Murnei camp for the displaced in West Darfur decided to reject the re-planning of the camp. They announced their distrust of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), as well as their total rejection of classifying the displaced by their tribal background. One of the camp sheikhs told Radio Dabanga that the camps sheikhs and omdas of the camp, the Youth League, and the Women Association met on Monday. Apart from rejecting the re-planning of the camp, they also decided to “socially and economically isolate whoever meets a representative of the Darfur Regional Authority on behalf of the displaced”. Furthermore they reject any classification of the displaced on tribal basis. The camp leaders issued a statement on their decisions that was sent to all camps for the displaced in Murnei on Tuesday. The camp sheikh also reported that the security forces released El Faki Adam, one of the five sheikhs detained for two weeks. The other four are still in detention, among them sheikh Khamis Allajabo who was arrested about four weeks ago, and tortured after being tied with shackles.
