Residents of Hamidiya and Zamzam refugee camps in Zalingei, North Darfur complained on Friday of the lack of a celebratory mood in the wake of Eid El Fitir.

One of the refugees in the camp told Radio Dabanga, “There are no preparations for Eid El Fitir in the camps because of extreme poverty and high prices. There is no humanitarian aid, which was previously provided for the people.”

He added that the refugees aren’t a state to buy new clothes for the children because of high prices neither can avail the Zakat [Muslim alms] El Fitir, which is a charity given to the poor at the end of the fasting after the fasting month of Ramadan.

“The taste of this holiday is very dry because of the high cost of living and the absence of security and real peace in Darfur,” a refugee from Zalingei camps told Radio Dabanga.
