New displacements in Darfur in 2015

Humanitarian organisations have verified 50,605 people in North, South and Central States who fled their homes as a result of recent fighting between government forces and armed movements.

The actual number of newly displaced people seems to be higher as aid agencies are unable to access parts of the Jebel Marra region due to access constraints, and more scrutinised verification processes conducted by IOM are ongoing or still need to take place in several locations in North Darfur.

The newest displacement map is produced by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in collaboration with humanitarian partners.

As of 30 April, it has been possible to reach all the verified 50,605 newly displaced people with basic humanitarian assistance. Challenges in terms of partial or delayed humanitarian access remain however unresolved in Rokoro locality in Central Darfur, as only some 12,800 newly displaced in Niertiti locality were reached.

In 2014, an estimated 427,000 people were newly displaced in Darfur, with some 141,000 estimated to have returned to their areas of origin.
