Militiamen kill displaced woman in West Darfur

Pro-government militiamen killed a 19-year-old woman in Birsal, Sirba locality, in West Darfur, on Thursday night. A relative of the deceased told Radio Dabanga that two militiamen attacked the house of the displaced young woman, Kaltum Yahya Hassan, at 11 pm. They attempted to rape Kaltum, he said, but she defended herself. The attackers then slaughtered her. The relative added that the residents in Birsal reported the incident to the police and the joint Sudan-Chadian army. The forces did not move to prosecute the perpetrators, however. He called upon the United Nations to provide protection against the abusive pro-government militias.
