Protestors torched the locality offices in Babanusa, West Kordofan (SUNA)

The Babanusa locality office in West Kordofan and the house of the locality’s executive director were torched after a quarrel between young men and army soldiers at a petrol station.

According to witnesses, the dispute between the young men and the soldiers was caused by fuel shortages.

An army captain directed his soldiers to arrest several young people. They were taken to the garrison of Babanusa, where they allegedly were subjected to degrading and cruel treatment.

In response, people raided the locality offices, damaging the furniture and destroying documents. They then torched the offices and several vehicles. The house of the locality’s executive director was set on fire as well. The damage is severe.

When the fire truck came to extinguish the fire, the protesters blocked the road and forced the vehicle to withdraw.
