Livestock trader, merchant seized from Darfur markets

Livestock traders at Mershing market in South Darfur have threatened to demonstrate in front of the local government offices on Friday, after one of their number was detained from within the market on Wednesday afternoon.

In a separate incident, militiamen kidnapped a merchant from Dirige market in Nyala, South Darfur.

Traders from Mershing told Radio Dabanga that six members of the Border Guards militia driving a Land Cruiser seized Abdelkarim Adam Ismail from the market, and took him to an unknown destination.

The witness said they reported the incident to the police, who opened a case and vowed to ensure he would be released by today. As this did not occur, the traders have decided to demonstrate in front of the local government offices in protest.

Nyala

At 11 am on Wednesday, unidentified militiamen seized Merchant Hassoun Adam Othman Said from within Dirige market north of Nyala in South Darfur.

A relative of the kidnapped trader told Radio Dabanga that six militiamen, in a double-cab HiLux pickup, demanded that Said accompany them to the office of economic security.

When he refused, they bundled him into their vehicle and made of to an unknown destination.
