Kidnapping, robbery by Darfur bandits

Two people were kidnapped and a vehicle was ambushed in separate incidents in North and South Darfur by marauding militiamen.

On Thursday Shartai Abdulaziz Eisa El Tayeb of the Zaghawa tribe was abducted from Saraf Umra in North Darfur.

Sheikh Abdel Razeg Yousif told Radio Dabanga that militiamen led by Ibrahim Ahmed Khater attacked Shartai Abdulaziz Eisa El Tayeb at his home in the Amarah district of Saraf Umra. “They kidnapped him at gunpoint, took him to an unknown destination, and have demanded a ransom for his release.


About nine militiamen in a Land Cruiser attacked a travel bus in North Darfur on the road between El Fasher and Mellit, and robbed the passengers of their money and mobile phones. One of the passengers said that a local rescue team chased the gunmen until Kabkabiya city.

On Friday morning, unidentified gunmen kidnapped Mohammed El Toum from his house at Abjo village in South Darfur. One of his relatives told Radio Dabanga that about eight gunmen riding motorcycles attacked and kidnapped him at gunpoint and took him to an unknown destination.
