Joint JEM/SPLA Forces defeat SAF in South Kordofan

A set of combined Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and Sudanese People Liberation Army (SPLA-Northern Sector), fought the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its militias in a series of military confrontations in the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan in the period of the 10-17th July 2011.

“Our gallant forces overran SAF strong-hold garrison in Al-Tais area 25 kilometres south west of Kadugli and completely liberated the area,” the JEM announced in a press release. The defeated party fled to Al-Ihaimir, leaving behind 150 dead soldiers, along with several injured or prisoners.

“Considerable numbers of weaponry including light and heavy machine guns and artilleries, RBJ, AK47 and anti air craft missiles are now in our force’s possession”, JEM continues.

The alliance suffered one fatality and some fighters sustained minor injuries. Three soldiers strayed from the battle field and were later detained by the SAF. They are:

1.     Commander A. Zaki

2.     Zakaria Arbab Abdalla

3.     El-Tom Hamed Toto

“We will continue to defend the innocent people of South Kordofan against the genocide regime in Khartoum”, they stated.
