The independent presidential candidate Kamil Idriss criticized the framework agreement between the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the government. He described it as bilateral and infeasible urging all concerned parties to address the root causes of the Darfur crisis. At the beginning of his campaign in Umbadda in Omdurman, on camelback and surrounded by a group of camel riders, Kamil Idriss professed the necessity to apologize to the Darfurians because of the killing, displacement and the destruction of villages. He proposed a written apology and expressed preparedness to be the first signatory.
