PORT SUDAN / KHARTOUM –

Protesters barricaded the Port Sudan-Khartoum Road in response to an alleged traffic collision that resulted in two people being hit by a fleeing driver, on Wednesday.

According to journalist Osman Hashem who spoke to Radio Dabanga, protesters barricaded the Port Sudan-Khartoum Road, blocking trucks and buses headed to Kassala and Khartoum. As a result of the closure, a significant number of buses and trucks accumulated on both sides of the road.

He states that the protest occurred after authorities first disclosed information about a traffic accident where a driver hit and injured two people before fleeing. Hashem added that authorities reportedly promptly arrested the alleged driver.

Sudan’s Express Traffic Department stated that the alleged “hit-and-run offender was a rickshaw driver”, who reportedly surrendered himself to the authorities.
