Hamidiya camp schools near collapse in Central Darfur

The basic and secondary schools in the Hamidiya camp for the displaced in Zalingei locality, Central Darfur, are on the verge of collapsing, owing to lack of maintenance. Adam Abdel Majid Abakar, the head of the Education Council of Hamidiya camp, told Radio Dabanga that the buildings of the seven basic schools and the two secondary schools at the camp are worn-out and “may collapse any moment. The schools are also short of desks, chairs, books, and notebooks. “Officials from Unicef visited the camp in May and June, and promised to help. However, there was no follow-up.” Abakar appealed to Unicef to keep their promises.
