Gunmen cause terror in search of camp near Garsila, Darfur

Forty-five (45) armed gunmen stormed Jeddah Camp in Garsila of West Darfur on Friday afternoon. The raid caused terror among the displaced people living there.

Forty-five (45) armed gunmen stormed Jeddah Camp in Garsila of West Darfur on Friday afternoon. The raid caused terror among the displaced people living there.

Witnesses said that the armed men searched the camp under the pretext that seven (7) camels had gone missing. When they found some animal gut by a woman they claimed that it had come from a missing animal. The woman, however, insisted that it was from a cow and not a camel. The police who were at the gate of the camp intervened and called for the gunmen to get out of the camp. They left toward of the creek to the east of the camp.

Witnesses said that the gunmen are still encamped at to locations along the creek, which has caused sufficient fear that women living in that area have begun taking their children to sleep elsewhere in the camp during the nights.
