Grenade explodes in pupil’s hand in West Darfur camp

A grenade explosion caused the amputation of part of his hands of a basic school pupil in the Abu Suruj camp for internally displaced people in Sirba locality, West Darfur, on Wednesday. The spokesman of the camps in Sirba told Radio Dabanga that a pupil of the basic school in Abu Suruj picked up a grenade lying on the side of the road after returning home on Wednesday. The bomb exploded when the pupil was playing with it. Ten of his fingers were amputated in the hospital in El Geneina, where he was transferred to. This is the second time a grenade explodes in the region and causes injuries to a number of pupils of the same school, the spokesman said. He called upon the humanitarian organizations working in this field to clean the area from remnants of war, so as not to cause more injuries to the pupils and innocent citizens. In September, a grenade killed a man and injured two children in the Abu Zur camp in El Geneina.
