Girl raped near Tabit, North Darfur
Armed men sexually abused a girl near Tabit in North Darfur on Friday. Seven of the perpetrators were arrested.
The incident took place in Hillet Adoma area, 15 km south of Tabit. A relative of the girl told Radio Dabanga that a group of armed shepherds rushed their livestock, including camels, onto the farms in Hillet Adoma. They assaulted some of the farmers and whipped them, and raped a 16-year-old girl that was among the farmers
The farmers then fled to Shangil Tobaya in the south and informed the authorities about the abuses. The witness said that a military force of Popular Defence Forces was dispatched to Hillet Adoma and managed to arrest seven of the perpetrators at the scene.
The girl recognised two of the perpetrators who were involved in the rape. All were arrested and brought to Shangil Tobaya.
The forces also took a number of the livestock that was grazing on the farms to the nearest corral.
The girl has received traditional treatment for her physical injuries by her grandmother, the relative said.
